Football game — tabletop pitch for two players

A football pitch for the table, with a goal at each end and a raised rim all the way round. Two players sit facing each other, one behind each goal. They flick the ball up the pitch and block shots coming the other way. First to the agreed score wins.

What it builds

Why we stock it

Most two-player games for young children are slow and full of rules. This one is fast and has only one rule: get the ball in the other goal. The rim keeps the ball on the pitch, so play doesn't stop every few seconds to fetch it. A round takes a couple of minutes. It works for a five-year-old against a parent, and for two brothers who'd otherwise be fighting over one toy.

Care

Wipe it with a damp cloth. Keep the balls in the box when you're not playing, because they're small and roll away. Play on a flat table so the ball runs true.
