Pocket piano — 15 keys, fits in a bag

A 15-key piano the size of a phone. Eight white keys and seven black ones, a volume button, a sound switch and a set of built-in tunes. It goes in a bag, and it plays a proper scale.

What it builds

• An ear for pitch: low on the left, high on the right, and the child hears the difference
• Rhythm, by playing along with the built-in tunes
• Finger control, one key at a time, with the black keys raised above the white
• Making up tunes, which is what children do with a keyboard once the novelty is over

Why we stock it

Most children's keyboards are too big to take anywhere and too loud to use at home. This one is 15.5 cm across, so it goes in a bag for a car ride or a waiting room, and the volume button means it can be played in a flat. The keys follow a real piano layout. What a child learns on it still works when they sit down at a full-size keyboard.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, and keep it away from water. Turn it off after use, since the batteries drain if it's left on in a bag. Take them out if it's going away for a while.
